constituency as well.  Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar is in the fray as an independent candidate.  He was the chairman of the BJP manifesto committee till a few days ago when he recently came out of Kamal Gooty.  He is stepping into the ring against Dayanand Sopte, who defeated him as the Congress party candidate in 2017.  In 2019, Dayanand joined the ruling BJP.  He is currently contesting as a BJP candidate.  She joined the BJP from the Congress .. Subhash Foldeshai, a former MLA from the ruling party is ready to contest.  Sangem's seat is currently being represented by independent legislator Prasad Gankar in the House.  Now he is contesting on behalf of the Congress party.  In the Kumbharjua constituency, too, the Kashaya party must have revolted.  Rohan Harmalkar is contesting here as an independent candidate.
He is contesting against Zainita Madkaikar, wife of sitting MLA Pandurang Madkaikar.  However, the BJP has pacified Siddhesh Nayak, son of Union Minister Shripad Nayak, who has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate after being denied a party ticket.  Goa Assembly elections will be held on February 14 in a single tranche.  The election results will be released on March 10
